You don't need an update just for this, for example, open vFootstepTrigger.cs and add using UnityEngine.Events; and public UnityEvent yourEvent;, look for the function OnTriggerEnter and add yourEvent.Invoke();
You can add the invoke in the function you want, but we assume that it should work there.
