Depends on skill and quality level you want. And your budget. If you want high quality without doing anything by yourself - buy it. You can find a lot of great game-ready characters online for a good price. If you have the skill and tools do it from scratch. You get a unique style and full control. Or take a "good" character creation tool like www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?204961-ZBUILDER-v2 and do the rest by yourself. Good quality for a small buck. Or you create them within Blender with the Bastioni Tools or with an standalone like Makehuman. On a personal level, i do not like these two but if you have a small budget for you game and need fast results, these are for you

Where can you find good quality characters dreadlord? I want really good characters, but the only thing I'm worried about is with those game ready characters, won't they be used in other games as well? I use the blacksmith challenger character, but I want something as good as that, but that's my own, personally I couldn't accomplish that good of a character.

TurboSquid offers a lot of top notch Character models. But you have to check carefully if they are game ready. If you want a real unique model that only appears in your game you have to do it by yourself or hire an character artist. //and i don't think you can use the blacksmith character in a commercial game.

Pay the artist to do it or do it by yourself. Not a big deal with Blender/Maya...

Nice choices as mentioned from Invector and dreadlord above. I personally use Daz3d myself, I feel that Daz and Turbosquid definitely have the best looking characters around. Just be careful with Daz you really need to read the documentation in depth. They have a license fee of $500 for < $100,000 and it goes up after but not only that, the only outfits that you are really allowed to use in a game are ones that are from Daz Originals, you can not use outfits from other artists unless they have a seperate license fee or give you explicit permission. Also Morph3d has good characters, they are just Daz (Genesis 2) models decimated some for game use, again though they have the same fee but you can use all of their stuff, however they may not be as original as you can get with the actual daz site. www.morph3d.com/

Here is most likely what you want Link: www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/45805 You can buy individual clothes at $15 each set, it has equip points, facial morphing, LOD system, Has seperate textures for eyes and mouth, can be made to dynamicly morph body and faces (think character turning into a werewolf) And works perfectly with invectors stuff as long as you add the content packs of clothes to the character before you create a controller. Its based on Daz like jrackley said. there upgrading to gen 3 soon i hear. There is also suppose to be a system to make your own clothes as some point. mainly it doesn't cost $500 like Daz. I use that with probuilder to make accessors like horns, and share.allegorithmic.com/ to grab procedural materials for the skins. It's pretty simple to pull off a decent looking orc, or rock person. Allegorithimic mats also tend to work well with 3dfoins cheap fantasy creatures as well. Using the above systems and invectors TPC, i can usually get a fully detailed original looking character in about 3-4 hours if i'm picky. About 15 minutes for something basic like an Orc or goblin.

You need substance painter or substance designer to use those cool materials?
