Hi there, newbie here. I'm helping a friend make a 2.5D Metroidvania style game and basically we're using 3D graphics in a 2D platform style game. I couldn't find the right controller setup to use, as they all had way more movement features that I needed, so I want basic melee attack control, with simple 2D platformer movement.
I downloaded the 2.5D add on, which seems to be the most ideal, but I don't want to be tied to a path. IF I delete the path, the character doesn't move at all and I don't know how to fix that, please help.
Q: Is there anyway I can use this add on, but without having to follow a path?
Many thanks in advance.

The path is used as a reference to a direction, doesn't mean that the character will only move where the path is. You can still create something like metroidvania where the character explorers vertical and horizontal while limited to the Z axis

Thanks for the reply @invector, much appreciated, but how do we do that from the 2.5D add on example?
Neither of us know how to create a controller, we're learning through using your asset, but where do we start? I mentioned before, if I delete the path, the character doesn't move at all.
Would you be so kind as to help us understand how to setup a metroidvania-style, basic controller with melee combat that doesn't follow a path? Thanks very much.

I would start by reading the documentation (notice that there are 3 documentations, one for each template) It's also very important to read the vComments included on some GameObjects, we always comment tips there.
You can create a character using the Character Creator Window, then replace the necessary scripts like ThirdPersonInput to 2.5Input as explained in the documentation
