Hi Tried posting in the unity forum but no luck so I'll try here.
I want to make a beat em up game, and have the characters both enemies and player to be fixed to face only in X direction. Is there a simple way to do that?

You can simple disable the Vertical Input on the ThirdPersonInput / MeleeCombatInput for the player, and for the AI... hmm perhaps bake a really tin navmesh? so he will only be able to walk there

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I still want the player to move vertically, it's a beatem up like "Street of Rage" style not a 2.5 Platformer style.
I found that I could have fixed angle on the camera and set the Locomotion type to Only strafe is very close to what I want. Only challenge then is I want to have the player be able to turn 180 degrees if I go to the left, and not going backwards as he does now.
Any ideas on how to achieve this?

The normal controls would work just as well and allow you to turn around. Like invector mentioned above, if you adjust the navmesh or just your level design you can achieve the angular look from 2d beat em ups easily and just make the walking area smaller to manage where people can walk. The strafe movement that you want is definitely similar to the style, But I'm not sure entirely on the code you need to change to have the player face the other way, but regular controls can give you the action beat em up style from post snes eea easily.

Hello, I replied to your post on the Unity forums as well inquiring about the same topic.
I was able to get the quick turns by adjusting the "Free Rotation Speed" to 100 in the character controller. It works pretty nicely at snapping the direction from left to right without any transition. I am just trying to see if there is a way that I can prevent the player and AI from turning in the Z direction all together.
Limiting the Nav mesh will help in getting the AI from going to far but it does not prevent them from turning in the Z direction. I was able to lock the player into Strafe Mode but the camera defaults into pointing in the Z direction. This could work but I can not seem to find where to control the direction the LOCK ON is defaulting to in the code.
Anyway, I wanted to share what I have been trying so far. If we find anything else, we will use this thread to share our findings.
By the way, love this character control kit and it is really well put together.

I don't know this would help, but from the 2d view, you put the walls in front of the camera, and behind the character, turn the walls invisible, but not turn the whole gameobject off, and you do the 2d view. Would that work?

Hi robiwan, If you are making a beat em up style game, I made it in my final Year's college project for Android/iOS using Invector only. You can have a look at the showcase video which Invector has on YouTube. Beat dem All was it's title. You can further ask me the things you get stuck into while developing. In my game I added following features : -Attire : Player can purchase different clothing from the in game shop. -Wepons : There were 15 weapons which player can upgrade up to level 3. -Defense : There were 5 shields which player can upgrade up to level 3. -Special powers : There were 4 special powers like anger management, may day, invincibility, health regeneration. All can be upgraded to level 3. -Storyline : Dialogs in the game. -inApp purchases and mobile ads. There's a complete list, if you are interested I can send it to you via pm.

Hi Hamzah Is it possible to do something like this with Invector Hi adamaze, after working with this template for more then 1year, I think everything is possible with invector's template. All you need is patience and a little bit of creativity. ;)
