I am trying to use funny objects as projectiles/bullets and want it remain on scene after firing. I tried unchecking the flag "destroy on cast" and increased bullet life to a large value, but the bullet still gets destroyed. Looks like I may be missing something very basic. Can you pls help?

There is also a DestroyGameObject component attached to the bullet set to destroy after 3 seconds.
