In the shooter manager component and mele manager component, the shooter manager has a "damage layers" section. you have to set that to "enemy" (or whatever tag you use for your enemies). Same with the mele manager (I think) although I'm not sure it says damage layers, it has a drop down button for "who you can hit" it also needs to be the same tag as your enemies for the mele to work right.
ETA: in the mele manager it's called "hit properties"
Thank you for all your help. I finally figured it out. Somehow I didnt place the sword in the right hand of the character but somewhere else. Once I placed the sword in the right hand it worked. Sorry for my Incompetence.
