Is there way to pickup and throw any objects?

Without much coding, is there a way to use the Shooter template to accomplish this?

i know from using previously( attempting, i never got anywhere much but i'm coming back to it), that it instantiates and your character can throw like grenades.

But how about items just in any scene you make items YOU DECIDE you want to be grababble and throwable. Can you make your character grab them and throw them when you want.

I don't really know how to program. But if the only way to do it is through scripting, any one have any tips on what scripting to do and where to put the script(what game object)?
