@invector Not really sure what may be causing this but wandering if anyone else has had this issue.
When in editor and playing the B button on the controller functions as it should i.e... player rolls and when Inventory is open B button goes back. However it is not working at all in the test build so I am unable to roll or close inventory without using the keyboard. all other buttons work just fine.

Nevermind, stupid overlook on my part. for some reason when creating the test build Unity was assigning the B button to "Left Shift" I noticed it on the input mappings when starting the game, changed it there back to B and things functioned as they should.
Now just to figure out why it did that in the first place?
